General Information About IELTS
IELTS is an exam that measures four skills (Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking). The Listening and Speaking modules are taken on the same day, while the Reading and Writing modules are then taken on the same day. The whole exam takes 2 hours 45 minutes and can be taken on paper or on computer. The Academic module is designed for those who will study at universities. The General Training module is required for people who qualify to live, work or study abroad.

Exam Content and Question Patterns
The IELTS exam consists of a variety of question types. The Listening module has 40 questions, and each is answered by listening to texts, dialogues or monologues. The Reading module has 40 questions based on reading passages. In the Writing module, candidates are asked to respond in two different ways: first, by writing an essay on a given topic, and second, by writing a report on a given picture or graph. The Speaking module has 3 parts: introducing yourself, speaking on a given topic, and answering questions on a topic presented by the examiner.

Scoring System
In the IELTS exam, a score is given for each skill area (Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking). Up to 9 points can be scored in each skill area. The overall score is given out of 9, and this is called the “Band Score”. If you need an IELTS score for university, your band score should usually be 6.5 or 7. However, requirements for immigration applications may differ. Each band in the IELTS overall scoring corresponds to a certain percentage range.

Success Rates
Succeeding in the IELTS exam requires high scores in the different skill areas. You need to stay at least at 5.5 or 6 in each skill area. However, getting a score of 7 or higher in all skill areas will help you do better in your higher education or immigration applications. The time limit in the IELTS exam is another important factor to focus on when preparing.
IELTS is accepted by a wide variety of universities and companies in countries such as Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the UK and the USA. The number of universities and companies in Türkiye that accept IELTS is growing day by day, for example Boğaziçi, Bilkent, Bilgi and Yeditepe Universities and THY, Yapı Kredi and Akbank. Immigration offices and government administrations also recognise the IELTS exam. YÖK (the Council of Higher Education) also accepts the equivalence of IELTS to ÜDS and KPDS.

The IELTS exam has two module options: Academic and General Training. The General Training module is normally preferred for immigration applications, while the Academic module is preferred for applications in education. EXAM FORMAT
The IELTS exam consists of 4 parts: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. Excluding the Speaking part, the total exam time is 2 hours 45 minutes.

TEST RESULTS
Your Test Report Form is sent to your address by courier on the 13th day after the exam. The Test Report Form includes separate scores out of 9 for the Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking sections, as well as your overall result.

WHICH INSTITUTIONS ACCEPT THE IELTS EXAM?
IELTS is accepted for university applications in many countries, above all Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the United States and the UK.
In the United States, more than 1,400 universities and institutions accept the IELTS exam. IELTS is offered at 300 test centres in 120 countries around the world, with 48 test dates a year. Those who have taken the test once can try again in a later session. Outside America, English-speaking educational and professional institutions, including in the UK, Australia, Canada and New Zealand and immigration offices, accept IELTS. IELTS has the highest international standing in language assessment.
